What We Do

It is our belief that we can facilitate healing by enabling the human body to self-correct. A “Whole Body” approach is taken. We release restrictions in the neurology, viscera (organs), musculoskeletal, myofascial and chakra energy systems. We then work toward rehabilitating posture, function and educate our patients about self management. Advanced manual therapy skills include the following specialized therapeutic modalities:

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy refers to the circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid around the brain and spinal cord, e.g. the circulation of the nervous system. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) provides shock absorbency, nutrition and detoxification for the nervous system. This circulation of CSF creates a palpable rhythm - the CranioSacral Rhythm (CSR). Pathology affects the CSR and changes its symmetry, rate, amplitude and quality. The CranioSacral practitioner utilizes a light touch technique - 5 grams (the weight of a nickel) - to log onto this rhythm, identify tissue and/or energy restrictions and facilitate their releases. We gently mobilize the bony handles of the cranial bones and the sacrum, as well as other areas, to restore circulation. This fosters the body’s natural ability to “self correct.” Abnormalities in the structure or function of the nervous system, musculoskeletal system, vascular system, lymphatic system, endocrine system and respiratory system link to the CranioSacral system. The CranioSacral system has far reaching internal and multi-system rebalancing capabilities.

Extrinsic symptoms such as pain, spasm, asthma, tics, anxiety, GI upset, sensory integration issues, headaches, neck/back pain, TMJ syndrome, fibromyalgia, autoimmune diseases, stress, hormone imbalance and many other states of malaise can be addressed by treating the CranioSacral system. This dramatically improves the normal physiologic function of the body with less need for medication and/or invasive procedures.

CranioSacral therapy has a profound healing effect physically, emotionally and spiritually. It enhances the mind-body connections we need to be healthy. The relaxation achieved with CST allows the patient to attain a unique level of peace and balance, which can result in a powerful improvement in cognitive function. When the mind is “clearer” and when the Central nervous system is balanced, everything in the mind/body/spirit works better individually and in concert.

Our practice focuses on CranioSacral therapy for all stages of life, including pregnancy, newborn, children of all ages and adults. Advanced pediatric training is required to include a pediatric population. We have completed and continue to engage in ongoing pediatric training.

Lymph Drainage Massage (LDM)

Lymph Drainage Massage is a light touch technique accessing the lymph node blockages and lymph circulation which enhances the immune system, induces deep relaxation (the alpha state), and facilitates detoxification.

People who have had their immune systems overwhelmed and weakened by exposure to toxins, trauma, surgery, poor diet, stress, autoimmune diseases (such as Lyme disease, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, etc), as well as many other challenges can benefit greatly from the detoxing and strengthening LDM provides for the immune system. It can alleviate such symptoms as spasms, pain, stress, stiffness, and fatigue, among many others.

Visceral Mobilization

Visceral Mobilization refers to the identification of organ tissue restrictions and gentle release to enhance their balance and function. Organs have a great influence on all aspects of body function. When they become restricted, displaced forces can have a profound affect on musculoskeletal tissue balance, organ function, posture and emotional states of health.

By gently manipulating the organs we treat the cause of the symptoms. An example of this would be when a person with chronic right shoulder pain is relieved through gentle manipulations to restore liver mobility. Another example would be intestinal restrictions which are often tied in with low back and hip pain. The connections are fascinating and real.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release enhances musculoskeletal, organ and nervous system balance. Sometimes these systems need additional support to function optimally. Muscles have layers of connective tissue between them which influence their function and orientation. The practitioner identifies tissue restrictions and works them out with specific manual techniques followed by home program exercises to maintain the new found mobility.

SomatoEmotional Release

SomatoEmotional Release pertains to listening to our bodies through gentle bodywork that can restore mind-body connections. These connections bring us closer to healing, happiness and health. Our tissues retain memory on a cellular level. Often times we sustain early injuries or experiences which are long forgotten, yet their impact can reside in our tissue as “energy cysts” preventing us from ever reaching our healing or functional potential. Through gentle touch and energy releases, our bodies clear away these cob webs of memory. This treatment enables a person to improve on many levels: physical, psychological and emotional. Situations involving chronic pain are often layered with a somatoemotional component. It is often the “missing link” to treatment and its release can lead to deep healing.
